Northwest Healthcare Internal Medicine Residency offers competitive benefits packages to all residents.

Salaries for 2023-2024 Academic Year

  • PGY-1: $61,000
  • PGY-2: $63,500
  • PGY-3: $66,500

Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance Benefits

  • Medical Plan – Two Blue Cross and Blue Shield options available
  • Dental Care – Comprehensive dental coverage available through Delta Dental
  • Vision Care – Visit Service Plan (VSP) available and offers services for examinations, lenses and frames
  • Prescription Drug Plan – Optum RX is the prescription carrier, offering savings on generic and preferred brand drugs
  • Paid Time-Off (PTO) and Leave(s) of Absence
  • 4 weeks paid vacation, available the first day of Orientation
  • Up to 2 weeks sick leave, available the first day of Orientation
  • Up to 6 weeks of One-Time Medical, Caregiver or Parental Leave, available the first day of Orientation and 1 additional week of paid vacation upon Program Director approval

Educational Allowance

Residents are provided an Educational Allowance each academic year. Funds may be used for books, journals, electronic subscriptions, USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX-USA Level 3 study materials, and other expenses with the approval of the program director.


Formal Mentor Program

Internal Medicine residents regularly meet with a program assigned faculty advisor who offers objective feedback, discusses rotation evaluations, and provides a clear path to success based on the resident’s career goals.


UpToDate Resident Resource

Residents have access to UpToDate, a point-of-care clinical medicine database, providing coverage of over 8,500 topics in 17 medical specialties. UpToDate integrates drug information (Lexi-Comp) and clinical images (Visual Dx). Includes medical calculators.


Counseling and Psychological Support Services Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program is a voluntary work-based program offering free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, and follow-up services to employees who have personal and/or work related problems.


Life Insurance

Residents receive life insurance coverage valued at 1 year of their current salary. Additional life insurance coverage is available at the option and expense of the resident physician.


Meals

Residents receive catered lunch during Case or Noon Conference and on academic half-days (Monday – Friday). Snacks and beverages are available 24/7 in the resident-only lounge at Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital. Residents also have access to the physician lounges at these facilities as well which have hot meals provided daily during business hours.


Professional Liability Insurance

Northwest Healthcare Tucson provides resident physicians with professional liability insurance to cover the resident physician while acting in the performance of their duties and assignments within the training program (moonlighting activities is not covered).
